Spanning over 480 kilometres, the Kangaroo Island South Australia coastline is well known for its many world-class beaches.
Whether you prefer a lazy stroll, a refreshing swim or fishing for your dinner, you'll find a Kangaroo Island beach perfect for the occasion. Take your pick from secluded bays, hidden rock pools and expansive stretches of white sand. You can even try a canoeing adventure at Antechamber Bay - Chapman River.
On the Kangaroo Island South Coast there's D'Estrees Bay, Hanson Bay, Pennington Bay (a great surfing beach) and the breathtakingly beautiful Vivonne Bay (a picnic hot-spot). Vivonne Bay is a fantastic fishing beach, home to local game fishing and cray fishing boats.
With your Kangaroo Island map handy, explore the North Coast, including Emu Bay, Stokes Bay, Snelling Beach and Western River Cove. Don't miss the spectacular views from Scott Cove, where you'll stand upon South Australia's highest coastal cliffs.
A short drive east of North Coast brings you to Kingscote, where colonies of little penguins live. On the other side of the Island, the Ravine des Casoars walking track will take you up close to the caves these Fairy Penguins call home.
Like most Kangaroo Island beaches, popular destinations such as Brown Beach, Baudin Beach, Penneshaw Beach are well equipped for visitors. The toilets, BBQ areas and playgrounds are maintained to a high standard by the Kangaroo Island Council.
Remember, Kangaroo Island SA has a mild to cool climate. As with any visit to South Australia, bring warm clothes to keep you cosy on cooler nights.
